We believe everyone deserves a great night’s sleep, but new research has revealed that for many of us that is getting harder to achieve.
According to our latest study, nearly a third of Brits could be struggling with a sleep problem, and 59% believe we’ve never faced more barriers to rest. From work stress to financial worries, it’s clear that modern life is taking a toll on the way we sleep.
That’s why we’ve launched the Great British Sleep Reset - a national call to help the UK rebuild healthier sleep habits, one night at a time.
With guidance from our sleep expert Kathryn Pinkham, we’re here to help you reset your mind, body and lifestyle for deeper, more restorative sleep.
Kathryn Pinkham says:
“Poor sleep impacts not just how we feel, but how we function in our daily lives. By prioritising better sleep through simple, achievable steps, we can feel more energised, motivated, and better equipped to take care of ourselves.”
Read on to find out 3 simple steps you can take today to start reclaiming your rest.
Whether you’re lying awake replaying the day, waking in the night, or struggling to feel refreshed, Kathryn’s 3-step reset plan can help you rebuild a healthier sleep routine.
Sleep struggles often start with a busy mind and the way you think about your own sleep, causing increases in pressure to get a good nights kip. Here are some tips to help Reset Your Mind and start to improve your sleep:
Write down your worries: Not everything needs solving before bed, so noting them down helps clear mental clutter.
Change your self-talk: If you tell yourself you’re a “bad sleeper”, your brain will start to believe it. Change the narrative to help reframe your mindset.
Let go of perfection: A single bad night doesn’t define your sleep. Trust that you can handle tomorrow, whatever the night brings.
A calm, comfortable sleep environment is key. Choosing a supportive, pressure-relieving mattress can make all the difference, helping you relax your body and quiet your mind before bed. Check out our new Comfort Breathe range for a mattress that helps you feel cooler and comfier as you head to bed.
Once your mindset is adjusted, it’s time to Reset Your Body. By rebuilding your natural rhythm and sleep drive with small daily habits, you help to increase the pressure to sleep throughout the day, making it easier to fall asleep when you do get into bed.
Stick to consistent wake times: Yes, even on weekends. Go to bed later and wake earlier to help the sleep pressure we need to fall asleep at night build more throughout the day.
Avoid clock-watching: When you can’t sleep, it is tempting to track the time and work out how much - or how little - sleep you’re going to get. Not only does this add pressure, it keeps your mind alert when you should be allowing it to relax.
Get up if you can’t sleep: If you’re lying awake for what feels like longer than 20 minutes (without checking the time) get up and do a relaxing activity in low light, like reading a book or watching TV, until you feel sleepy again.
A mattress that supports your body as you twist and turn in your sleep, such as our UltraGel Collection, can help reduce wake-ups and improve overall sleep quality.
Healthy days lead to restful nights. Once your mind and body are primed for sleep, it is time to assess your lifestyle and improve habits to support a better nights sleep.
Move your body: Find ways to incorporate more exercise into your routine, as regular gentle activity helps regulate your energy levels.
Eat and hydrate well: Avoid heavy meals or caffeine late in the day, and aim for a balanced diet with plenty of water.
Manage stress: Build small moments of calm into your day, with activities such as journaling, stretching, or simply taking a few deep breaths.
Investing in the right mattress can help create a relaxing, comfortable environment to support great sleep. Our Lift Breathe range have been scientifically proven to help your body relax for deeper, undisturbed sleep, reducing the amount of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your system and promoting the release of melatonin (the sleepy hormone). However you sleep, you will find the right mattress to help you on our website.
Sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have to protect our mental and physical wellbeing, yet for too many of us it’s the first thing we sacrifice. At Silentnight, we’re committed to helping Britain sleep better, with expert advice, research-backed guidance, and sleep products designed to help you rest easy. Explore our full range of sleep solutions and discover how you can start your own Sleep Reset today.
