Discover life as a Silentnight apprentice

Jonny Garth , 21, is a Junior Management Apprentice who joined Silentnight in August 2016.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship scheme at Silentnight is award winning so that's what attracted me. A scheme like this is a great foundation for a career, I wanted that kind of security and something I could work hard for. I knew that I could make something of myself in a place like this.

What does your apprenticeship involve?

My days consist of learning different processes and procedures across a wide range of jobs within the business. I have previously been in quality control and currently I'm doing team leader training out on the production floor, where I'm shadowing the current team leaders. Soon I'll be tasked with running a specific section by myself. I'm also in the process of making training videos so I will also work on those at certain times in the day.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

Being able to learn within a working environment while attending college is a great balance - I feel like I have the best of both worlds. The job is so varied and I'm always doing something different. There's also a really great atmosphere at Silentnight, It's always very lively even when you're in the offices.

What do you hope the apprenticeship will lead to?

I hope to be with the company for many years to come, continuing to learn and progress, and repaying the investment that was originally invested in myself.
