About Highclere CastleTM
The Grade I listed Highclere CastleTM is situated on 1,000-acres of gardens and parkland in Hampshire and is currently home to the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon.
Highclere CastleTM was the vision of famed architect Sir Charles Barry, who was requested by the 3rd Earl of Carnarvon in 1838 to turn his home into something of truly breath-taking beauty.
Completed in 1878, Highclere CastleTM was to become a symbol of Victorian decadence and a venue for the rich and famous of the time to visit, including politicians, pioneers and royalty.
Highclere CastleTM was also part of the war effort in WW1. The 5th Countess of Carnarvon, Almina, was to turn the castle into a hospital for patients arriving from Flanders. In WW2, it was also to become a home for children who had been evacuated from North London.
Thanks to its stunning interiors and scenic surroundings, Highclere CastleTM has been used for a number of famous and critically acclaimed TV series and films.
