A tidy green bedroom with plants, divan, nightstand, bedding and accessories.

Moving house can be a stressful time, the last thing you want is to forget to buy or bring something important for your new bedroom. Your bedroom should be a sleep sanctuary – it’s the place you’ll go to relax, the place you’ll get your forty winks each night and the place you’ll wake up to every morning, so it needs to be the perfect space that works for you. Whether you’re moving house, going off to uni, or simply want a bedroom makeover, don’t worry – we’re here to help. We’ve created your new bedroom checklist so you can get everything you’ll need hassle-free.

what furniture does a bedroom need?

A typical bedroom should include essential furniture such as a comfortable bed (with a mattress and bedding), bedside tables for convenience, and adequate storage like a wardrobe and chest of drawers for clothing and personal items.

a bed

We might be biased, but it does say it in the name. Your bedroom needs a bed, of course. This is part is the most essential bedroom furniture, so if budget allows, treating yourself to a new bed and mattress will make your bedroom feel fresh and new.

If you’ve upsized and need a bigger bed for your new house, we always recommend going for the biggest bed/mattress you can fit in the room to maximise the space you have to sleep in, so if you’re looking to create a sleep haven then check out our King size and Super king mattress options.

If your new room is limited in terms of storage space, then a divan bed with hidden storage could be the perfect choice to allow for extra space and practical storage options. So, consider how much storage space you’ll require, whether you just need a couple of extra drawers, or a full under-bed ottoman base, we’ve got the solution for you.

Don’t forget to assess the move of your furniture around your new place - apartments or a house with a tight staircase may prove difficult to transfer your new bed and mattress. So, explore our rolled mattresses within our just sleep range. These mattresses are delivered rolled, making them easy to manoeuvre and get them to your bedroom quick and hassle-free.

storage for your clothes

Let’s face it – no one really wants a permanent floor-drobe, do they? So, get rid of those moving boxes and invest in a wardrobe and/or drawers that will fit all your clothes in comfortably. There are so many options for storage out there, so be sure to do your research and choose something that suits the style and shape of the room – a little drawer set will look lost in a big room, and a huge wardrobe will overpower in a small space.

bedside tables

A bedside table next to your bed is vital for convenient storage and holding nearby items. We recommend getting your bed into the room first and then you can measure the space you’ve got to work with for your bedside tables. The last thing you want are tiny tables that don’t fill the space, or ones slightly too big that just won’t fit.

bedding

This might sound obvious, but don’t forget all the different bedding bits you’ll need for your new bedroom. If you’re buying a new mattress for your new room, make sure to buy bedding the right size for it.

  • Pillows and Duvets – treat yourself to a new set of bedding, including new pillows and a plush new duvet. Consider the time of year you’re moving in – you’ll need a lighter tog duvet in Spring/Summer and a heavier tog for Autumn/Winter. If you suffer from allergies or want to make an eco-friendly choice, we have different ranges of bedding to suit all sleepers.

  • A mattress protector -  this will keep your mattress cleaner and fresher for longer, by protecting it from dust mites and other nasties. Definitely worth the investment.

  • Duvet cover and pillowcases – your chance to add some extra style to your bed. Whether you go for a minimal or neutral colour for your bedding or all-out maximal with bright colours and patterns, choosing a good quality and comfortable duvet cover, pillowcases and a bed sheet will turn your bed into somewhere you can’t wait to dive into at night.

If you’re decorating your new bedroom and need some help choosing the perfect colour for the walls, we’ve teamed up with Crown Paints here to dive a bit deeper into what different colours mean and how to use them best in your bedroom.

Once you’ve got all of these covered, your new bedroom will feel homely, comfortable and like a real sanctuary you’ll look forward to spending every night in.
