Invest in the night
25/01/2012
As daily routines get more hectic, and schedules become more challenging, many people are opting to invest more in the night, to get more out of the day.
Sleep has been found by researchers across the globe to have a significant impact on how you feel in your everyday life. How you approach the night drastically affects how the day will approach you. If you get the right amount of good quality sleep, you will find that whatever challenges the day has to offer will be far easier to digest.
Getting the right amount of sleep helps you remain sharp throughout the day, and also allows you to concentrate on work and activities. The increased energy that the direct result of a well-rested night generally results in an overall positive attitude through the day. There are also health benefits, as recent studies have shown a lack of sleep can cause conditions such as diabetes, obesity and even depression.
The premise as far as beds are concerned is this: Sleep is good, and a good mattress aids a good sleep.
Choosing the right mattress can be a very personal choice, and it should be comforting to know that there is an ample selection of mattresses that combine a host of materials to make a good night sleep as personally satisfying as possible.
The product-testing and consumer campaigning charity Which? has recently released its descriptions and opinions of some of the most commonly produced mattresses.
Pocket sprung mattresses are popular among people who move a lot during the night. The springs are sewn into individual fabric pockets which allow the coils to support the weight individually. For those that move around a lot a night, or if you sleep on your side, pocket sprung mattresses are likely to offer the most comfort to you.
Memory foam mattresses mould to the shape of your body, and have become increasingly popular since they were developed in 1966 under a contract by NASA's Ames Research Centre. The objective of the project was to improve the safety of aircraft cushions, but since then, they have been widely used for beds. The mattress is topped with a layer of temperature-sensitive viscoelastic material (memory foam) and reacts to the heat by moulding to the shape of your body.
For those that have to consider allergies when sleeping, pure foam mattresses or latex mattresses are the best option for you. They are inherently hypoallergenic for sufferers of mold, mildew or bacterial allergies, and can aid asthma and pulmonary function allergies.
There are many other choices of mattress, but the key tip to remember is that you should make your choice as personal as possible. Silentnight has a vast range of mattresses that will suit personal needs, which is why they have experienced unprecedented growth over the years. The past five years have been particularly successful ones, as consumers continually identify the benefits and the importance of a good night's sleep.
According to sales figures from Silentnight, if you put all the beds together end to end that Silentnight has sold over the past five years alone they would get to Rome and back and would cover over 800 football pitches! If you wanted to cover all of these beds with a duvet, you would need one that was twice the size of the City of London!
Once the mattress is in place, it is important to observe a few regular rules of a good night's sleep. Try to avoid drinking caffeine after dinner, and also avoid late meals. Relaxing and making the bedroom a sanctuary is also important, and making the bed as cosy as possible will sooth the mind and allow the night to make your day.
