Decorating your bedroom in 2012
30/12/2011
Many of you will no doubt be planning interior design project in the New Year, but knowing exactly where to start can be a tough task.
Bedrooms are especially difficult, particularly as you'll need to maintain a calming environment while also adding a stamp of personality.
Adrienne Chinn, director of her own design company, suggested that the nation is getting a little sick of taupe and beige, instead opting for something a little more interesting.
"[Homeowners] are using a lot of white in rooms, getting away from magnolia, with bright pops of colour on cushions and rugs," she explained, revealing that coloured curtains are also making a comeback.
If you've got Roman blinds in your bedroom, then Ms Chinn suggests replacing them with curtains in a bold colour such as turquoise.
For those of you who like a theme in your design projects, then independent interior designer Jo Hamilton envisages a rise in popularity for all things British.
She noted that with the royal wedding in the not too distant past, and the London 2012 Olympics and Queen's Jubilee not far away, people are feeling proud to be British.
Although some of you are opting for iconic prints and bunting, there is a more subtle way to follow the trend.
Ms Hamilton continued: "Spots and ginghams have paved the way for some gorgeous, sugar almond, pastel plains.
"Furniture is clean and simple with a retro edge. Pale grey wooden floors, powdery coloured accessories and freshly cut flowers finish the look."
Those of you who fancy getting creative in the New Year won't be alone, as interior designer and TV presenter Linda Barker has seen a rise in crafting.
It's no longer middle-aged mums who are following the trend, but also people in their late-teens and 20s who are hoping to put a personal touch on their home decor projects.
So, why not experiment a little with the design of your bedroom in 2012?
