Sleeping on the left makes you happier, less stressed

Sleeping on the left makes you happier, less stressed It turns out there might be such a thing as getting out of the wrong side of your bed in the morning.

Research carried out on behalf of hotel chain Premier Inn found that those of you who sleep on the left tend to be happier and less stressed than right-hand sleepers.

More than 3,000 adults were questioned in the poll, with lefties found to be generally more cheerful and positive about the future. They were also more able to cope with demanding workloads.

A quarter of respondents who rest on the left said they have a bright outlook on life, compared to only 18 per cent of right-hand sleepers.

Claire Haigh, spokeswoman for Premier Inn, noted that there is a clear connection between the side of the bed you sleep on and how positive you are in everyday life.

She continued: "It comes down to habit and what you're used to. If you are used to sleeping on a certain side of the bed, it does feel a little alien when you switch.

"So it seems the age old saying about getting out of bed on the wrong side is completely true."

Three-quarters of the Brits questioned said that they were so stuck in their bedtime ways that they would find it highly unusual to switch sides.

Furthermore, a quarter think it would affect their mood if they were required to do so.

Earlier this year, Premier Inn appointed a new bed bouncing director to ensure its beds and mattresses are as comfortable as they can be.

Natalie Thomas will be tasked with checking each of the hotel chain's 46,000 beds every six months to make sure they live up to the required standards.

The first round of testing is expected to be completed by the end of February 2012.
