Do your best to maintain a regular sleep schedule
12/12/2011
It's that time of year again when you might be staying up a little later than usual - but what's the best way to get your sleeping pattern back on track?
One expert believes that while an early night or lie-in might be helpful, the best option is to make sure sleep schedules aren't interrupted.
"Going to bed and getting up at roughly the same time, all the time, does programme your body to sleep better," explains Lisa Artis, spokeswoman at the Sleep Council.
Something you should avoid at all costs is compensating for a lack of shut-eye by over-indulging on caffeinated drinks like coffee or Coca Cola.
Ms Artis reveals that they make it more difficult to doze off, as well as preventing you from getting the deep sleep you need.
Having a hot milky drink or herbal tea is the best option, as this will keep you hydrated without making it more difficult drop off.
