Dress guest bedrooms to impress this Christmas
01/12/2011
With Christmas just a matter of weeks away, many homeowners will no doubt be preparing to welcome family and friends over to stay for a night or two. Making the right impression is essential, so thinking about how best to kit out the bedroom so it is comfortable and welcoming is most important.
Guests need to feel like they have everything they require for an enjoyable stay, without having to pester their hosts each time they need something.
One thing to bear in mind is that everyone likes their bedroom at a slightly different temperature during the night. Simply offering a duvet with a high tog rating is unlikely to satisfy all tastes, so perhaps provide a range of bed sheets and throws so guests can layer up or down as they please.
Having twin beds in the guest room is a great idea, as they can be pushed together when couples come to stay, or be forced apart if the circumstances should demand it.
Cotton sheets are usually the best option on the bed, as they can help cool the body down when it is too hot, while also providing effective insulation. White sheets are a sound purchase as they suit every taste and will complement any changes in bedroom decor.
Adorning beds with large numbers of coloured cushions and other furnishings is largely advised against, as they will only need to be removed when it gets to bedtime. If the room is limited in space anyway, leaving a pile of cushions at the foot of the bed is likely to prove frustrating.
While on the subject of space, providing room for clothes to be hung up is a great idea. Offering a number of hangers will ensure visitors can keep their garments crease-free - and don't forget to offer storage for a suitcase.
Step into guests' shoes this Christmas and you can't go far wrong.
