Bedtime routine ''improves quality of rest''

Having a bedtime routine in place will help enhance the quality of rest people achieve as they lie on their mattress, an expert has suggested.
It is all too tempting to just get in bed and hope to sleep, but this is often not the case, explained Sammy Margo, sleep expert and author of the Good Sleep Guide.
She continued: "We need to be gradually wound down - we haven't got an on-off switch. Implementing a bedtime routine that can last around an hour is a good idea."
Ms Margo recommended a number of things to do before bed, such as avoiding confrontation and any sort of TV programme that is likely to cause distress such as the news.
Having a warm bath with lavender is a good idea, as is listening to some soothing music or reading a book, the expert added.
Avoiding caffeine and having a hot milky drink is also highly recommended.
