Head to bed and keep fuel bills down
18/11/2011
Getting into bed early could help homeowners lower their heating bills during the winter months, The Sleep Council has claimed.
Beds are the perfect places to retire to on cold nights, meaning that the heating can be turned down in favour of snuggling up under the duvet.
The group estimates that by switching the central heating off for a couple of hours earlier than usual, people could save as much as £150 a year on their gas bills.
A number of tips are offered by The Sleep Council on how to keep the winter chill at bay, such as by wearing natural fibres such as cotton or silk, as these will keep the body warmer.
Having a bath or a warming milky drink before getting into bed will also help increase body temperature.
During the day, finding time for exercise is a good idea as this will get the circulation going and help keep the body warm, the group added.
