Learn how to wind down at the end of the day
08/11/2011
Falling asleep is not an easy task for some people, but they are perhaps failing to wind down properly at the end of the day to create the right conditions for sleeping in.
Light is known to stimulate the brain and therefore make it less likely to turn off, so using a dimmer switch is one way of controlling how illuminated a room is.
It is also essential to reduce the amount of mental stimulation a person is exposed to, which means avoiding the use of computers and televisions just before getting into bed.
Efforts must be made not to become stressed before hitting the mattress, so revising for an exam or engaging in any other stress-inducing activities should be saved for another time of day.
Research from the National Sleep Foundation and the AAA Foundation has shown that driving while drowsy affects around a third of Americans.
