Bed down in Heathrow Airport
20/10/2011
Passengers have been invited to bed down in a soundproof cabin that comes equipped with a shower, free wi-fi and even a minibar at Heathrow Airport.
The airside "bedrooms", provided by No1 Traveller, are designed to give travellers at Terminal 3 a bit of peace away from the stress of the airport.
However, at £20 an hour for a single and £30 for a twin, the rooms don't come cheap, and due to current airport restrictions passengers can't stay in their beds overnight.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, No1 Traveller founder Phil Cameron said these are the first airside bedrooms in the UK, although the idea is already in operation in Schiphol, Amsterdam.
"You're talking hundreds of rooms there, so there's definitely a demand for it at Heathrow and we want to expand once we understand how it works for Heathrow's market," he added.
Dubai International Airport recently became the first airport in the Middle East to provide "sleep pods" for travellers, which include touch-screen TVs and a full-size bed.
