Restless leg syndrome arises when going to bed
20/10/2011
Anyone who suffers from restless leg syndrome will find the condition becomes worse when they get into bed.
There are various symptoms of the condition, including a burning feeling and creepy-crawly sensation in the legs, which make it hard to settle.
It is not uncommon for sleep to be interrupted throughout the night, leading the individual to get off their mattress and walk around until the pain goes away.
Although there is so far no medical treatment to deal with the condition, there are some ways in which people can help ease the pain and give themselves a better chance of a good night's sleep.
For example, taking a hot bath followed by a leg massage is effective, as is cutting down on alcohol and caffeine intake.
Another common bedtime problem is snoring, as figures from the British Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Association show it is a problem that affects 41.5 per cent of the population.
