AAP warns against bumper pads in children''s beds
18/10/2011
There is much debate over what items can safely be used in children's beds, so the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) has reaffirmed its position on the subject.
It had previously advised against certain kinds of bumper pads typically used in cots, but has now ruled out the use of the products entirely.
The group believes that there is no evidence that the pads are effective at reducing or preventing injuries and that their potential to harm the child is far too great.
It was recently suggested by the AAP that the diagnosis and treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in younger children and adolescents needs to be carried out much earlier.
"Treating children at a young age is important, because when we can identify them earlier and provide appropriate treatment, we can increase their chances of succeeding in school," said study lead author Mark Wolraich.
