Fundraisers sleep outdoors to raise cash
17/10/2011
Most people like to settle down on their memory foam mattresses to sleep at night, but not everybody is so fortunate - as fundraisers in Reading have been discovering recently.
As part of Byte Night, 130 people went out to spend a night on the streets and experience what it is like to be homeless, the Reading Chronicle reports.
Armed with sleeping bags and jumpers, the group heard tips about keeping themselves warm and dry on the streets and how to stay safe.
Chris Sykes, the chief executive of a Wokingham-based company, told the newspaper: "As a first time Byte Nighter, I had a slight inkling of what to expect sleeping out.
"What I didn't expect was the passion and effort put in by the Byte Night board members, the Action for Children team and all the sleepers to make this event so successful."
The night has raised £650,000 so far for Action for Children, making it the most successful Byte Night yet.
