Homeowners seek to personalise properties
10/10/2011
Homeowners are taking a new approach to decorating their properties, particularly as there is so much uncertainty in their lives.
This is according to DIY SOS presenter and interior designer Julia Kendell, who explained that people want to be comfortable within their own homes.
"Women particularly are very much nest building and they are after creating a home that feels right for them and for their family," she commented.
Personalisation is playing a key role in this, Ms Kendell suggested, which may see people decorating the area around their beds with one-off pieces or photographs.
It was recently suggested by Barbara Heilmann, certified interior designer and owner of Barbara Heilmann Interior Design, that people are in search of muted colours for their bedrooms.
She told northjersey.com that earth tones and browns are especially popular, as people want shades that will help them doze off.
