Give a bedroom the personal touch
27/09/2011
Bedrooms should be decorated in a way that creates a feeling of comfort, which means making the space personal.
People usually spend more time in their bedroom than any other part of the house, so creating a sanctuary is essential for being able to doze off in bed at night.
One of the most important things to bear in mind is lighting; having a dimmer switch is a good idea, as this helps to regulate just how bright the room is.
Opting for harsh lighting is usually a bad idea, as experts believe that excessive light inhibits the release of melatonin in the brain, which is essential for sleep.
Christina Vercelletto, senior editor of Parenting magazine, recently suggested that children should be given a say on what decor choices are made in their bedrooms.
She recommended to yourhome.ca that inexpensive decor choices are made as kids' tastes will change quite rapidly.
