Fundraisers to forego beds for charity
23/09/2011
People are being asked to give up their beds and mattresses for one night to help raise cash for a good cause.
The Big Sleepout is now in its second year and will take place on September 30th at Lakeside Village in Doncaster.
Participants are asked to seek sponsorship for the event, which aims to raise funds for South Yorkshire-based homeless charity Safe@last.
Cheryl Sadler, centre manager at Lakeside Village, told the Doncaster Free Press: "We are delighted to welcome back the Big Sleepout to Lakeside Village for a second year."
This year's event is being held on September 30th and organisers hope to top last year's total of 70 participants to raise awareness of this widespread issue.
Other sleepovers are planned in Barnsley, Sheffield and Rotherham for the first time.
Latest homelessness figures from the government show that the amount of applicants accepted as owed a main homelessness duty in the second quarter of the year was 17 per cent higher than in 2010.
