Kids ''struggle'' on less than 9 hours sleep

Kids ''struggle'' on less than 9 hours sleep Allowing kids to spend fewer than nine hours in their children's beds are likely to have problems at school, researchers have claimed.

A study by the Autonomous University of Barcelona shows that children between six and seven years of age are affected academically by a lack of shut-eye.

"Most children sleep less than what is recommended for their intellectual development, which is hindered because the lack of sleep cannot be recovered," explained study leader Ramon Cladellas.

He noted that electronic equipment such as TVs and games consoles are discouraging kids from going to bed.

The team found that 69 per cent of children arrive home after 9pm three evenings a week and go to bed after 11pm a minimum of four nights per week.

Furthermore, they believe that on fewer than five hours sleep, it is difficult for adults' brains to function in an effective manner.
