Lack of beds creates problems at Aberystwyth University

A bed shortage at Aberystwyth University means that many students could find themselves sharing a room as they arrive for the start of the new academic year.
This year has seen a record number of students applying to the Welsh university, leaving it with a lack of beds and mattresses to go round.
As a result, Aberystwyth University is considering using bunk beds to alleviate the problem, alongside a range of other innovative measures.
Aberystwyth University vice-chancellor Professor April McMahon said: "Bunk rooms have proved a popular solution at other universities and allow us to provide accommodation to more of our students in this exceptional year."
She suggested that setting up rooms in this way will enable students in their first year to make friends more quickly than if they were staying in separate accommodation.
Efforts are being made to ensure that anyone who does end up in a bunk room is able to have the same university experience as their peers.
