Children urged to shun electronics in favour of sleep
19/08/2011
Staying up late to play with electronic devices such as computer games is all too appealing for children, but this could be having a negative impact on their sleep.
Sleep doctor Michael Breus emphasises that parents must fight the technology and encourage their kids to sleep soundly in their children's beds.
He commented: "The 'electronics' deck is stacked against parents. But that doesn't give parents the okay to wave the white flag on bedtime and allow kids to squander sleep."
Kids who do not get the recommended nine to 11 hours sleep are likely to wake up feeling cranky and may even see their grades suffer at school.
With the start of the academic year not far away, this time of year is perhaps more important than ever for ensuring children stick to strict sleep schedules.
Research commissioned by Alton Towers recently found that just eight per cent of children are read a story every night of the week.
