Sisters awarded bed bug compensation
18/08/2011
Two sisters have been given more than £1,600 in compensation after receiving scores of bed bug bites during a stay at a London hotel.
Melanie Carmen and Joy McDonagh checked into the Airways Hotel in Pimlico, only to wake up following a less than comfortable night's sleep.
Mrs Carmen found 86 bites on her body, while her sister had been bitten more than 30 times by the creatures living in the bed linen and mattress.
Both were sent to Queen Mary's Hospital in Bexley for immediate treatment to tackle swelling and nausea.
"The bites were extremely painful. We were left suffering from deep aches, itching, and other flu-like symptoms and it took months for the bites to disappear," explained Mrs Carmen, from Deal in Kent.
She claimed that many other people who had checked into the hotel before them had also suffered similar problems, as indicated by reviews on the TripAdvisor website.
