Kids ''keeping phones in bed''
17/08/2011
Teenagers may not be getting enough sleep because they insist on having their phones tucked in with them at bed time.
According to the Herald Sun, a new survey by Best Enemies Education (Bee) in the US showed that 80 per cent of the 3080 students taking part admitted they put their phone on vibrate and keep it under their pillow.
Ross Bark, chief executive of Bee, suggested that many of the children interviewed were left tired in the daytime because they insist on being kept up to date with the latest gossip from friends.
"They tell us they are checking their messages from 4:00 AM to 5.30 AM, as they can't get to school and find out something they didn't know about," he said.
Allison Harvey, professor of psychology and director of the Golden Bear Sleep and Mood Research Clinic at the University of California-Berkeley, recently said that teenagers may be harming their development by keeping irregular hours at night instead of having a proper sleep in bed.
