Ensure kids'' success at school with sound sleep

Youngsters who do not spend sufficient time in their children's beds could find their grades suffer at school, researchers have claimed.
Experts from the University of Alabama at Birmingham explained that restoring healthy sleep schedules after the summer holidays is one way of ensuring this does not happen.
Kids need restorative sleep in order to ensure their memory remains in top condition, which in turn will improve their performance in the classroom, the researchers suggested.
Stephenie Wallace, assistant professor of paediatrics at the university, said that parents need to start adjusting their children's sleep times around a week before they return to school.
"This incremental change may start off rough, but it will get easier and ensure they are not miserable on their first day at school," she commented.
The team urged parents not to fall into the trap of believing their child does not need as much sleep as everyone else.
