Kids'' sleep could suffer at school
08/08/2011
Although the end of the school holidays may seem some time off, getting kids' sleep schedules back on track will take longer than many parents realise.
Many youngsters will no doubt have stayed out of their children's beds longer than usual over the past few weeks, which may make it difficult to encourage them to go to sleep earlier.
It is therefore important to try and restore their usual weekday sleep schedules around two weeks before school starts as this will give them plenty of time to readjust.
Parents should set a slightly earlier bedtime each day and encourage their kids to get up a bit sooner in the morning until their patterns are back on track.
Research from the American Academy of Paediatrics recently found that children over the age of one who share a bed with their parents are not at risk of any behavioural or learning problems in later life.
