Sleeping with smartphones a cause for concern
27/07/2011
Technology is playing an increasing role in people's lives, but for some, sharing a bed with a smartphone is becoming the norm.
Findings from the Pew Research Centre reveal that individuals are concerned about missing something during the night, so keep their smartphone close by.
More than a third (35 per cent) of adults in the US were found to own a smartphone, while two-thirds of this amount sleep with their smartphone right next to their bed.
Experts warned that this over-reliance on technology can lead to all sorts of problems, such as the inability to sleep due to anxiety that leads to the constant checking of the phone.
Stanford University researchers recently found that people who regularly experience disturbed sleep are at risk of suffering from memory problems.
The experts experimented on mice to find that they struggled to identify familiar objects after suffering from broken sleep
