Kids need to be settled in unfamiliar beds

Kids need to be settled in unfamiliar beds With many families likely to be spending a few nights away from home over the coming weeks, getting kids to sleep away from their children's beds may be no easy task.

Whether people are heading to a hotel or to stay with family or friends, taking a few home comforts could make it easier for little ones to get settled.

For example, allowing the kids to choose a stuffed toy for the journey is an option, as this will give them a companion for when it comes to going to bed.

A pillow could also provide comfort to youngsters, as could a favourite book.

Parents are asked to maintain their children's bedtime routine as much as possible, which will help them realise when it is time to wind down and doze off.

The American Academy of Paediatrics recently carried out a study to determine that children over the age of one who share a bed with their parents are not at risk of developmental or behavioural problems.
