Sleep apnoea treatment debuts in India
20/07/2011
There could be more hope for sleep apnoea sufferers, as experts in India have developed a new non-invasive treatment for the condition.
Known as Provent Sleep Apnoea Therapy, the product has been funded by India's government through collaboration with Stanford University and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
"Many people in India go undiagnosed and very few receive treatment due to the many complexities associated with existing treatment options, such as CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure)," explained Dr Manvir Bhatia, director of neurology at the Sleep Centre in New Delhi.
He emphasised that this new product is convenient and highly portable, mainly because it does not rely on power to be operated.
It was recently revealed that Jawbone had developed a new wristband, which is able to monitor people's sleep patterns as they lie in bed before making the information available for assessment.
This will give people data they can use to determine how to improve their quality of rest.
