Comfortable bedroom temperature will aid rest
18/07/2011
Trying to sleep in a bedroom that is far too hot will make the task even more difficult, so it is essential to create the right conditions for resting in.
Failing to be properly rested can have all sorts of implications, as in the long-term it has the potential to affect a person's mood and therefore their relationships with others.
Ensuring the bedroom is at the correct temperature could be as easy as opening a window or door, as excessive warmth makes it difficult for the mind to switch off at night.
Changing the bed linen could be equally as effective, as heavyweight duvets can lead the body to sweat profusely, so should therefore be substituted for sheets.
The Sleep Council recently offered its top tips on keeping cool in the summer, which included keeping curtains or blinds drawn during the day to keep the sun out.
It also recommended avoiding caffeine or a big meal before bed, as this can make a person especially hot and sweaty.
