Summer holidays can throw sleep schedules

Allowing kids to abuse their sleep schedule during the school holidays can lead to all sorts of problems, so parents are urged to stand their ground.
It is important to think ahead to when it comes to returning to school, as late nights and early mornings often do not make a very good combination.
Psychiatrist and psychotherapist Tracey Marks explains to the Huffington Post that parents need to think about how long their child should spend in their bed according to their age.
She noted that kids between the ages of five and 11 tend to need around ten hours' sleep per night, which is the advice issued by the National Sleep Foundation.
Ms Marks highlighted that parents should gradually encourage their child to go to sleep earlier and get out of bed earlier, as this is much easier than implementing a sudden change at the last minute.
