Kids'' rest ''affected by violent images''

Kids'' rest ''affected by violent images'' Violent content being shown on TV or on the internet is having an impact on kids' ability to doze off in their children's beds, researchers have claimed.

A study carried out by the Seattle Children's Research Institute discovered that watching such content has more of an effect on sleep when viewed in the evening.

Children who watched age-appropriate programmes during the day, however, were found to have had no additional problems with their sleeping patterns.

"For a seven to ten-year-old, they are really at a point where cognitively they can grasp that that's not real violence and they can see the humour in it – it's not frightening for them," commented lead author Michelle Garrison.

She emphasised that younger children, however, are not as able to make such a distinction.

A team from the University of Chicago Medical Center and Pritzker School of Medicine recently found that children who suffer from sleep apnoea may benefit from a nasal spray treatment.
