Addressing floor and wall coverings is the most effective way of improving the decor in a room, one design expert has suggested.
The important thing is to determine a home improvement budget and select items within that budget, noted Ros Alcock, consultant on the House Doctor Network.
If homeowners are hoping to change the area around their bed, for example, they may be able to use existing items and draw inspiration from them, she recommended.
Ms Alcock continued: "If people want new ideas, you can start off by buying something you might already have, like a piece of artwork, a rug, a piece of fabric, something like that that [you] absolutely love."
Parents who choose to address their teenagers' bedroom decor may benefit from getting ideas from the youngster, as this will help ensure they are happy with the finished result.
Furthermore, parents will be less likely to have to redecorate the rooms again any time soon.
