Owners of pets in Scotland are the most likely to allow their furry friends to share their bed, a new poll has found.
Dogs and cats were found by ICM to be the pets people allow onto their bed at night, while women were discovered to be more pet-friendly than men.
On average, 25 per cent of pet owners in the UK have allowed their pets to share their bed on at least one occasion, BBC News revealed, while one in six have this as a permanent arrangement.
However, experts have warned that sleeping with a pet nearby could have all sorts of health implications.
Elaine Pendlebury, senior veterinary surgeon at the PDSA, commented: "There are diseases that can be transmitted from dogs to people and this is something that needs particular consideration when you've got a dog sleeping in your bed."
She noted that these conditions can range from minor problems to very serious illnesses.
