Mattresses take on new faces in Sunshine Coast
31/05/2011
Mattress recycling is not uncommon, but in one area of Australia a local artist has given the bedding a new lease of life in quite a unique way.
A number of discarded mattresses across the Sunshine Coast have been decorated with artwork, attracting the attention of passers-by.
So far, more than a dozen mattresses have been treated to a facelift by the unnamed artist, reports the Sunshine Coast Daily.
Local police are taking action to stop people dumping the mattresses in the first place and have put up signs close to the artwork asking witnesses to come forward with any information.
"We are doing all in our power to stop it. This mattress artist is a bit of a mystery at this stage," commented Senior Constable Des Hansson.
Many areas offer mattress recycling schemes to help people dispose of their old products, while some manufacturers also offer the option of taking them away.
