Mattress recycling will help the environment
24/05/2011
Mattress recycling is becoming more prominent in the UK, as people recognise the benefits of doing their bit for the environment.
Many local councils offer such facilities, although some mattress firms will also offer the chance for consumers to send their old product off for recycling when their new one is delivered.
Knowing when it is time for a new mattress should not be difficult to determine, as a person may start to experience aches and pains or no longer wake up in the morning feeling refreshed.
With pocket sprung mattresses, the springs may start to poke through the surface, or memory foam models could begin to sag.
It was recently revealed that Rhondda Cynon Taf had welcomed a mattress recycling scheme to help reduce the number of products going to landfill that are unable to biodegrade.
Estimates suggest that 300 old mattresses end up in the region's tip on a weekly basis, WalesOnline said.
