Children could benefit from a bedtime routine

18/05/2011

Children could benefit from a bedtime routine Getting children to bed is often hard for parents, but many experts believe that setting a routine is one of the best ways to remedy the situation.

The key is to make youngsters recognise when it is time for them to doze off, which may involve playing them soothing music or reading them a bedtime story.

Avoiding any task that will only build up excitement is generally recommended, so switching off the TV and computer games should be part of the evening schedule.

Feeding a child a warm glass of milk is one means of encouraging them to rest, as is running them a hot bath, which will prepare them nicely for when it is time to go to bed.

This follows research from the University of Arkansas, which showed that playing computer games late into the night is often one of the reasons teenagers suffer from sleeplessness.
