Bed bugs should not be tackled alone

Homeowners with a bed bug problem are usually encouraged to get professionals in to tackle the issue to ensure it is dealt with properly.
Products available in store often contain chemicals that bed bugs have become immune to, meaning people may think they have eliminated the problem when really they have just masked it.
Science writer Amy Maxmen told the Scientific American: "Spraying pyrethroids or pyrethrins directly on a resistant bedbug at close range may in fact kill the pest, but there's little chance of hitting each individual insect."
Such items may also pose health risks to humans that can be avoided by calling in the experts.
The other option would be to buy a new mattress, as the Sleep Council recently pointed out that worn beds are often the reason people fail to sleep properly.
It also expressed the need for people to ensure the area around their bed is clean, as dust mites can cause problems for asthma sufferers.
