Parents who constantly argue could be having a negative impact on the sleeping patterns of their kids as they try to sleep in their children's beds, it has emerged.
Findings published in the journal Child Development show that youngsters who sleep in a home with bickering parents find it hard to fall asleep and often wake up during the night.
The team of international university experts highlighted that children need sleep - especially in the early years - in order to develop properly.
Professor Gordon Harold, of the School of Psychology at the University of Leicester, said: "Regulated sleep is essential during infancy for healthy brain and physical development.
"Disrupted sleep patterns early in life have serious implications for children's long-term development."
He highlighted that how parents relate to each other impacts the emotional, behavioural and academic growth of youngsters.
