Keep cool in bed this summer
21/04/2011
Soaring temperatures across the UK can make it difficult to doze off in bed, as being too warm makes it harder to sleep.
However, the Sleep Council has compiled a list of ideas to make it easier to get shut-eye at this time of year, with many of them common sense.
It acknowledged that while some of the guidelines may seem simple, it is surprising how many people still neglect to follow them.
For example, keeping curtains or blinds closed during the day will help keep the bedroom cool, as will opening windows and doors to create a draught.
Wearing cotton pyjamas is also effective as they will absorb sweat effectively - and are better than nothing at all.
There are also some more unusual means of keeping cool, such as putting a pillow in the fridge before bedtime and placing a glass of cold or icy water in front of a fan.
