Get out of bed for prolonged reading, says expert
12/04/2011
Reading in bed can have a number of negative effects on the body, no matter how comfortable it may feel at the time.
This is particularly the case for older people, noted Wanitha Ashok, founder of Moving Body fitness centres, who explained that the neck and back are most at risk from a poor reading position.
Spending too much time in the same position will stiffen the back and make it more difficult to move other joints and muscles, she told dnaindia.com.
Ms Ashok emphasised that no matter how unappealing it may seem, switching to a different reading posture will have a positive impact on the back and other parts of the body in the long run.
Reading to a child as they lay in bed is recommended by experts as a great way of getting them off to sleep, as opposed to allowing them to watch TV that will stimulate the mind.
