Man jailed for fraudulent mattress purchase
30/03/2011
A man in the US has been jailed for impersonating his wife over the phone in order to purchase an expensive mattress and bed sheets.
Ricky Vaughn Barry from Hamilton, Montana, ran up a $4,000 (£2,500) bill for the purchases, which he made by putting on a female voice.
The 60-year-old asked the company to open a line of credit for the mattress and bed sheets, which his wife discovered after checking her finances and realising she had not authorised the transactions.
Mr Vaughn Barry has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison for the offence.
In other mattress news, it was recently said that the lifespan of a mattress often depends on the person, with some able to sleep in the same bed for years on end, while others will need a replacement in a matter of months.
Furniture Today explained that how long a mattress will last often depends on the quality of its internal components.
