Don''t over-do it before bedtime

15/03/2011

Don''t over-do it before bedtime Anyone who frequently struggles to sleep on their mattress needs to give their diet some consideration, About.com has said.

The article stressed that certain foods - and even drinks - are not conducive to sleep and can leave a person feeling restless and unrefreshed.

One of the most common things to avoid is caffeine, the article highlighted, as it makes the mind more alert, meaning it is harder to wind down at the end of the day.

Excessively spicy foods also must be avoided, as they can create heartburn, therefore leading to difficult sleeping conditions.

A good snack before bed is cherries, as they are not only high in vitamins but also contain melatonin, which is known for regulating rest, the piece added.

Sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley recently explained in an article for the Daily Mail that couples may benefit from having separate mattresses if they struggle to rest alongside each other.
