Bed rest help for arthritis sufferers
03/03/2011
People with rheumatoid arthritis can find it difficult to drift off on their mattresses at night, and one expert has offered some advice that could help them to get better bed rest.
Alison Wyndham, director of the Wyndham Centre, said there are a number of very effective meditation tapes that can aid sleep, while avoiding computers and TV before bed will also help the mind to wind down.
"Certain nutrients can also be helpful such as B vitamins, nature's own stress busters; magnesium for achy muscles, it is a natural muscle relaxer and sedative," she went on to say.
Her comments follow the publication of a study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine last month, which revealed that poor sleep quality correlated with higher levels of depressive symptoms and greater pain severity in people with rheumatoid arthritis.
The Wyndham Centre specialises in providing pain relief through a wide range of treatments.
