Colchester hospital workers pass up beds

With snow still sweeping the nation, it is perhaps unsurprising that staff at one hospital were unable to get home to their beds over the weekend.
Nurses at Colchester General Hospital ended up sleeping in ward beds due to the adverse conditions on Saturday night (December 18th).
Construction workers at the hospital, however, were able to come to the rescue of some stranded staff by ferrying them to and from home in a 4x4, the BBC reveals.
It is not alone, as Essex County Hospital in Colchester has also had to take desperate measures by asking some staff to work double shifts to cover the losses.
Last month, researchers from the Emory University School of Medicine claimed that failing to sleep properly can heighten the risk of heart disease and other serious health complaints.
The team also highlighted that blood vessel function is disrupted by a lack of rest.
