Almost half (42 per cent) of Americans would rather forego the opportunity to spend time in bed than their computer or TV, a study commissioned by Aaron's has found.
When asked what they would give up first - their TV, computer or bed - just 58 per cent of those asked identified that they enjoy hopping on their mattress, Ipsos Public Affairs revealed.
People aged 55 and over were found to be the least willing to sacrifice their time under the sheets, with only 21 per cent being least willing to part with their computer.
Mark Rudnick, Aaron's vice-president of marketing, said: "While we hope that no one ever has to make this difficult choice, the reality is that many are struggling in these economic times to afford each of these basic household items."
Experts from the University of Mysore recently found that IT engineers are among the most sleep deprived of all professions.
