Infamous criminal Charles Manson has been found with a mobile phone smuggled under his mattress, according to reports.
Prison officials found the LG flip phone stowed under his mattress, which was used to make calls to people on the outside.
The 76-year-old is believed to have used the phone on a number of occasions before it was seized, Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections revealed to Fox 8 News.
She confirmed that text messages had been sent from the handset, with the communication believed to have been sent to California and New Jersey.
However, Ms Thornton indicated that the exchanges had not been crime-related, although 30 days have now been added to Manson's sentence in punishment for the contraband phone.
People were recently warned against using mattresses as sledges after two girls were injured in an incident at Wildwood Park, Stafford.
