Sledging on mattresses should be avoided

Sledging on mattresses should be avoided Mattresses should not be used for sledging in the recent snowy weather, after an accident occurred in Staffordshire.

Two youngsters attempted to travel down a slope in Wildwood Park, Stafford on a plastic covered mattress, but crashed into a tree.

They were taken to hospital with a number of injuries, the BBC reports, which should act as a stark warning to others considering carrying out a similar stunt.

Cold weather is currently bracing much of the UK, with freezing temperatures and snow causing havoc on roads, railways and runways.

In response to the difficult conditions, a number of workers from the LD Mountain Centre in Newcastle found themselves bedding down for the night in the store.

Many had stayed behind to process internet orders, only to find they were snowed in, leading them to use sleeping bags from the stock to keep themselves warm and comfortable.
