Covers ''help keep mattresses fresher for longer''
14/09/2010
Investing in a cover is a good way of extending the life of a mattress, one article has suggested.
A vinyl mattress cover, for example, can protect against spills as well as bed bugs, explained diylife.com.
For those who do not like the thought of sleeping in a bed covered in vinyl, padded covers are also available and they prevent the mattress from indenting wherever a person sleeps.
Memory foam mattresses are designed so they do not have to be turned, but traditional models need flipping every so often to ensure they remain supportive, the website noted.
It also referred to advice from the Better Sleep Council, which indicates that regularly vacuuming the surface of a mattress can remove dust particles and certain types of mites.
The Better Sleep Council recommends that people arm themselves with all the information they need to make the right choice when buying new mattresses.
