''Know your needs'' when choosing a mattress
31/08/2010
Establishing what is needed from a mattress is crucial for those seeking to make a new purchase, it has been said.
An article for the Bermuda Sun emphasised that assessing what position a person sleeps in is important, as is the level of support they need throughout the night.
"Some experts say that people who sleep on their back usually benefit from firm mattresses that offer support to fill in the gaps in the contours of the back," the piece explained.
It added that the firmness of a mattress is often down to personal preference, so what may be good for one person is unlikely to be the same for another.
A mattress is not going to cure back problems, the article emphasised, but it may go some way towards helping to alleviate pain.
It was recently suggested by Jacqueline M Brunshaw, director of the psychology department at the Cleveland Clinic Canada in Toronto, that emotions experienced throughout the day can often lead to disrupted sleep.
